The process according to the invention is suitable above all for working up used and aged glycol/water hydraulic fluids. In a first process step, the more or less brown-coloured fluid to be worked up is subjected to a process for separating off the undissolved solid and liquid components. The fluid thus treated is then contacted with an anion exchanger or a cation exchanger or a combination of anion exchanger and cation exchanger for separating off the dissolved interfering components. The glycol/water solution thus obtained is colourless to slightly yellow-coloured and can be recycled to the original use or another use. In the case of losses of glycol, water and/or additives in connection with the working-up, the quantities lost will be replaced again. The process described thus represents a simple and economical method for the working-up of hydraulic fluids containing glycols as base materials.
