RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE AND TAPE CASSETTE

PURPOSE:To selectively use two kinds of large and small tape cassettes and to miniaturize a device by a simple constitution. CONSTITUTION:There is a large tape cassette 1 which shares with a small tape cassette 12 in one recording and reproducing device 22; and when the center of the front of this large tape cassete 1 is overlapped on that of the small tape cassette, two tape exits 3 and 3' on the entrance side and the exit side are placed in positions approximately equal to two tape exits 14 and 14' of the small tape cassette. Two leading-out guides 27 and 27' on the tape suppy side and the tape take-up side are provided which lead out a recording medium tape 5 (16) from a cassette case 2 (13) and are used as tape guides at the time of running of the recording medium tape. While the tape is run, these two leading-out guides are placed in the same position at the time of using the large tape cassette as well as the small tape cassette.
