Magnetic removal of metal wear particles - from lubricating oil flowing through oil filter

A process for utilising a magnetic force field, for removing and trapping metal wear particles from the lubricating oil circuit of an i.c. engine prior to their re-entry into the circuit, comprises applying a magnet (A) onto the top of the oil filter at the opposite side from the oil inlet and outlet. The magnet (A) is held in a steel jacket and has a threaded pin (3) which accommodates a screw (C) for holding a metal yoke (D) for fixing the magnet (A) on an oil filter housing. ADVANTAGE - Wear particles are constantly removed from the oil circuit without imparting additional costs and/or material to newly installed replacement filters and without loss of the magnet system on disposal and/or scrapping of the spent filter.
