The operating compartment (3) facing the cylinder (1) outlet end for the piston rod (13) is connected continuously with the flow path (7) by means of a constant throttle opening (6) in the piston rod guide (5). Parallel to the throttle opening is a bypass (8) fitted with a non-return valve. The non-return valve is in the form of an O-ring positioned in a groove (9). Both the throttle opening and bypass consist of at least one hole each, the valve (11) has a through-flow connection (12) with cross-section larger than that of the throttle opening. USE/ADVANTAGE - The height of the chair or table is adjusted easily and has a simple economical appliance for throttling the pressure medium in the gas spring.
