<p>The invention provides a device having two components: a needle advancing apparatus (50) slidable longitudinally along a catheter (56) to advance needles (57) into a tissue membrane (43), such as a blood vessel (42) wall, around an opening (99) in the membrane(93); and, a suture retrieval assembly (51) insertable through the catheter (56) beyond a distal side of the tissue membrane (43). The needle advancing apparatus (50) advances suture (58) through the tissue wall. The suture retrieval assembly (51) grabs the suture (58) on the distal side of the tissue membrane (43) for extraction thereof through the opening (99) in the tissue membrane (43). A method for suturing a membrane beneath the patient's skin is also disclosed.</p> |
