CARTON HAVING DIVIDER PANEL FOR TWO TIER CAN PACKAGE

A package includes a plurality of cylindrical beverage cans arranged into at least two tiers. A carton is disposed around the exterior of the group of cans and has interconnected side, top and bottom panels. A paperboard divider panel (30) is disposed between and in contact with the cans of adjacent tiers. The divider panel defines a plurality of apertures (32), each of the apertures defined by a generally circular edge (34) concentric with the cylindrical axis of upper and lower cans and having a diameter (D4) smaller than the base of the upper can. The divider panel further defines a plurality of slits (36) arranged to extend radially outward from each circular edge to a distance (D5) at least equal to the diameter of the top flange of the lower can.
