An adjustable bed includes a base frame (18) and a mattress frame (14) having a plurality of pivotally interconnected sections (32, 34, 36). A plurality of links (16) are positioned between the base frame and mattress frame. The mattress frame may be moved between a high position and a low position. A single linear actuator (120) is connected to the mattress frame. The actuator is expandable and retractable to raise and lower the mattress frame with the mattress frame sections in a common plane. The actuator may also be retracted when the mattress frame is in a low position to articulate the mattress frame sections.
