PURPOSE: To improve the qualitative defect of a copy by providing a conductive shielding member partially enveloping a corona discharge electrode and further providing a means for heating the shielding member so that the surface temperature of the shielding member may rise. CONSTITUTION: The corona discharge electrode 12 is partially enveloped by the conductive shielding member 18 forming a channel to increase ion density which can be utilized for conduction, either end thereof is fixed at the port 20 of an end block assembly 14, and the other end thereof is fixed at the port 22 of an end block assembly 16. Then, a corona potential generating source 24 is connected to the electrode 12 through a lead wire 26. Furthermore, the member 18 is provided with the heating means to make the surface temperature of the shield rise. Owing to the gentle rise of the surface temperature of the shield 18 at the time of operating the corona generating device 10, the absorption of corona effluent on the surface of the shield 18 is eliminated and the sparking erasion of a photoreceptor caused by the discharge of the corona effluent is eliminated.
