PURPOSE:To obtain a device having a high photoelectric conversion efficiency and characteristics stable for continuous use by providing a photoconductive layer containing a charge generating pigment and a specific charge transport dye between two electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An organic solar cell A has a substrate 1 and a cell 2, a photoconductive layer 3, and a transparent counter electrode 4 which are piled up one after another on it, which is irradiated with light from the transparent electrode 4 side, but can be irradiated with light from the substrate 1 side in the case where the substrate 1 and the electrode 2 are transparent. A charge transport dye is a hydrazone compound expressed by a general formula I, and it has a long electron conjugate system in molecules and therefore has a hole transport capacity higher than the prior art charge transport dye. Therefore, making a photoconductive layer 3 contain this hydrazone compound as the charge transport dye allows an organic solar cell of excellent photoconversion efficiency and stable characteristics for continuous use to be obtained.
