PURPOSE:To obtain a device having a high photoelectric conversion efficiency and characteristics stable for continuous use by providing a photoconductive layer containing a charge generating pigment and a charge transport dye between two electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An organic solar cell A has a substrate 1 and a cell 2, a photoconductive layer 3, and a transparent counter electrode 4 which are piled up one after another on it, which is irradiated with light from the transparent electrode 4 side, but can be irradiated with light from the substrate 1 side in the case where the substrate 1 and the electrode 2 are transparent. A phenanthrene derivative (compound where A is a group expressed by formula II in formula I) has a phenanthrene structure part known as quencher in molecules and therefore is excellent in charge transport capacity and in stability to light. Therefore, making a photoconductive layer 3 contain this phenanthrene derivative as the charge transport dye allows an organic solar cell of excellent photoconversion efficiency and stable characteristics for continuous use to be obtained. |
