The inductive proximity switch includes a sensor coil and a sensor inductance (1) having a ferrite core (4). The ferrite core is constructed in a U-shape and in one embodiment has an approximately square shaped base face. The U-bridge (5) of the ferrite core may have a relatively small thickness (D). In one embodiment the bridge thickness is from 20% to 40% of the bridge length (Lst). The arms (6, 7) of the ferrite core have a relatively large length (Lsch). ADVANTAGE - Has larger actuation distance for given outer dimensions.
