A pair of switch contacts (1,1) are installed within a vacuum tube. Located between the contacts is a switching path (s) the switch contact carrying elements have a dish-shaped section (4)) with inset hollow cylindrical elements (2,2). The contact and electrode surface is provided by coupling elements (10a) with an outer layer (10b) of a switchable conductivity. The coupling element has a centre section that is dish shaped (12). Within the main body there is a helical spiral slot section (8) that forms a winding section. USE/ADVANTAGE- For medium and high-voltage switching plant. Provides reduction in short-circuit currents.
