A shock absorbing device (2) for a generally horizontal lifeline (126) wherein one end of the lifeline is mounted at fixed location, the other end of the lifeline (126) is connected to one end of the shock absorbing device (2), one end of a turnbuckle (132) is connected to the other end of the shock absorbing device (2) and the other end of the turnbuckle is mounted at a fixed location. The shock absorbing device (2) has a frangible bolt (90) that breaks when a predetermined amount of force is applied thereto, which force is then absorbed by shock absorbing device (2). Also, shock absorbing device (2) are used to connect electric power cables (150) to spaced apart supports (152). |
