A litter board (10) and method of manufacture of same is disclosed. The litter board (10) has a structural closed cell foam core board (210) sized to support a human body. The board is constructed of a non-absorbent non-conductive material. In addition, the litter board has a plurality of covering layers superimposed upon the core board substantially enclosing the core board. The covering layers include at least one layer (230) of a tear resistant material and at least one layer of composite matrix material (220). In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the litter board (10) is devoid of any metallic materials such that the litter board is substantially transparent to x-rays. Also, the covering layers further include a smooth non-absorbent coating layer (240) on the exterior of said covering layers substantially covering said litter board and a layer of gel material. It may be constructed in pieces, with two rigid board segments (310; 320) with rigid partial sleeves (330; 340) connecting the edges (312; 314) of the two pieces. |
