A frictional smoke generator, for a food smoking chamber, has a driven friction wheel against which wood is pressed to create frictional heat for smoke prodn. The novelty is that (a) wood chips (21) are pressed in an open-ended cylinder (12) against the friction wheel (10) which is rotatably mounted at one end of the cylinder (12); and (b) a pressing device is introduced at the other end of the cylinder (12) and is displaceable by means of an adjusting device (14). ADVANTAGE - The smoke generator does not require expensive wooden poles and has a simple structure allowing continuous operation without expensive and time-consuming preparatory work.
