The safety system in a vehicle uses a relatively soft air cushion (8), compared with the stiffness of the air bag. This is arranged on the side of the air bag (5) directed towards the windscreen (2) and/or on the side facing the occupant. The soft air cushions are created by separate chambers forming part of the interior (7) of the air bag proper which communicate via openings (9). Gas from the inner chamber flows out through the cushions and escapes via outlets (11). USE/ADVANTAGE - Air bag passenger restraint system for vehicle reduces the danger of breaking the windscreen or harming the occupant as the air bag inflates.
