The vacuum cleaner has a folded filter of several layers in the air path and a movable scraper element (7) which brushes the free edges of the filter layers (5) when moved. It is made from plastic along with a flat return spring (10), the two items being a single moulding. The spring end of the scraper is fixed to the vacuum cleaner housing, but the other end is floating. The spring has two leaves, each protruding outwards in opposite directions perpendicular to the direction of scraper movement. Then the leaves bend back to meet the element on either side at its root. The arm has protrusions (9) which joggle the filter layers. ADVANTAGE - Simple inexpensive scraper element (or "joggler") for filter.
