The present invention relates to a process for reducing the amount of ammonia affixed to a combustion fly ash, comprising combusting a fuel under conditions effective to form a combustion fly ash and collecting the ash; and exposing the ash to a flow of air at a temperature of at least about 300 DEG F for at least about one minute.
