A dye ribbon package for use with a thermal printer, which comprises a supply spool (12) with a roll of dye ribbon wound thereon and a take-up spool (14) having the leading end of the dye ribbon attached thereto for rewinding the ribbon as it is paid of from the supply spool, which package includes a bottom wall (11) and two upstanding opposed lateral walls (15, 16), having opposed slotlike openings (25,27-26,28) for engagement of the corresponding ends of the cores of the spools (12, 14) thereby to support both spools in parallel relationship, said slotlike openings allowing easy removal of the spools from the package in a direction radial to their axis, and the slotlike openings being open at their lateral outside surfaces thereby allowing gripping of the front ends of the spools by an operator's fingers. <IMAGE>
