PURPOSE: To provide a system for interrupting operation of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A voltage output signal from an exhaust gas oxygen(EGO) sensor 11 arranged in an exhaust gas stream is used. When a comparator 17 determines that there are simultaneous signals indicating that an EGO sensor signal level determined by a comparator 12 is above a predetermined value, and an idling condition of the engine is determined by a comparator 14, ignition voltage is turned off 18 with respect to a spark plug to interrupt engine operation. Thus, it is possible to prevent a high level of carbon monoxide in the ambient.
