PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing an optical fiber preform in which the optical fiber preform having a stable shape can readily be produced. CONSTITUTION:Glass fine particles synthesized in flames of burners (1a) and (1b) are applied to the tip of a seed rod 2 to form a porous optical fiber preform 3. At this time, the growth rates for respective growth ends (3a) and (3b) of the optical fiber preform 3 are separately sensed for each growth end by the respective burners (1a) and (1b) to control the respective burners (1a) and (1b) so that the each growth rate may mutually coincide.
