PURPOSE:To impart water permeability to a porous polymer membrane by a simple process by treating the membrane with specific gases. CONSTITUTION:A porous polymer membrane (e.g. one made of an ultrahigh-mol.- wt. PE having a viscosity-average mol.wt. of 2,000,000) is treated with a gas mixture comprising fluorine and oxygen pref. in a ratio of the partial pressure of fluorine to that of oxygen of (1:0.01)-(1:1,000) pref. at -70 to +90 deg.C. |
