PURPOSE:To effectively remove nitrogen oxide in an exhaust gas having a relatively high oxygen content at a relatively low temp. the same as that in automobile by allowing a porous inorganic oxide layer in an exhaust gas purifying material to carry a specific catalyst and allowing the exhaust gas added on the upstream side to come into contact with the purifying material to remove nitrogen oxide. CONSTITUTION:The exhaust gas purifying material is made by forming the porous inorganic oxide layer on the surface of a ceramic made or metal made molded body and carrying the catalyst containing 4-6wt.% Co, <=1wt.% at least one kind of alkali metal element and <=1wt.% one or two kinds of rare earth elements on 100wt.% porous inorganic oxide layer. And the purifying material is arranged at the midst of a exhaust gas conducting pipe and the exhaust gas added on the upstream side of the purifying material and containing a hydrocarbon or an oxygen contained organic compound comes into contact with the purifying material at 300-600 deg.C and the hydrocarbon or the oxygen contained organic compound is allowed to react with nitrogen oxide to remove nitrogen oxide. |
