PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation of a recording material carrier and an image carrier due to impact at the time of contact by providing an image carrier evading part not in contact with an image forming area of the image carrier on the recording material carrier. CONSTITUTION:A transfer drum 1 is provided with the photosensitive drum evading part 21 not is contact with the image forming area of the photosensitive drum 3. By judging the recording material 14 to be fed by a sensor S whether special recording material is fed or not, an image forming sequence for ordinary recording material is executed, in the case of the ordinary recording material. On the other hand, in the case of the special recording material, the transfer drum 1 is set so that the photosensitive drum evading part 21 is opposed to the photosensitive drum 3 when the transfer drum 1 being away from a normal position in order to separate the special recording material is returned to the normal position at the time of image formation. Thus, the impact is not applied to the image forming area of the photosensitive drum 3 when the transfer drum is returned, so the degradation of the photosensitive drum 3 is not generated, and as a matter of cource the degradation of the surface of the transfer drum is not generated, since the surface of the transfer drum 1 does not in contact with the photosensitive drum 3. |
