PURPOSE:To reduce a job time for troubleshooting of an illegal packet reception alarm caused aperiodically and to relieve a command application job of a maintenance personnel. CONSTITUTION:On the opportunity of reception of an illegal packet reception alarm from a packet exchange processing unit (CP) 30 by a network management equipment (NMS) 10, the equipment 10 allows a CPU 30 to execute packet monitoring of a line having a line number CN designated by the illegal packet reception alarm. Every time the NMS 10 receives the illegal packet reception alarm after the start of packet monitoring, the NMS 10 revises the count generated by the packet monitoring management table and discriminates whether or not the count exceeds a packet monitoring stop specified number and sends a packet monitoring stop request signal to the CP 30 together with a monitor number to the CP 30 when the number is exceeded to stop the packet monitoring.
