摘要

PURPOSE:To provide an electric discharge lamp lighting device having the long service life while restraining evaporation of electron emitting materials by changing a part of a lighting circuit while using a currently existing lamp without designing and manufacturing a new lamp. CONSTITUTION:In a lighting device where an electric discharge lamp 1 having a pair of hot cathodes provided with electron emitting materials 15 is connected to a lighting circuit 2, a polarity changeover switch 3 is interposed between the respective hot cathodes 12 and the output side of the lighting circuit 2, and polarity to the hot cathodes 12 is made to be reversed in a prescribed period.
