PURPOSE:To obtain the magnetooptic information recording and reproducing device which is a detection system integrated type and detects a magnetooptic signal with a high S/N ratio. CONSTITUTION:The magnetooptic information recording and reproducing device modulates incident luminous flux, which is polarized in a specific direction, by polarization plane rotation corresponding to the recording pattern of a magnetooptic information recording medium 5 by utilizing magnetooptic Kerr effect, and then detects the modulated luminous flux by a detection system integrated element 7 to read the recording pattern (magnetooptic information). The detection system integrated element 7 has a waveguide type TE/TM mode separating element part, a waveguide photodetector 8a for TE mode detection, and a waveguide photodetector 8b for TM mode detection and is equipped with a means which nearly equalizes the output ITE of the waveguide photodetector 8a to the output ITM of the waveguide photodetector 8b. |
