PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a light emitting element by making the light emitting element emit during the period in which the transmitted laser light is projected on the inverted part of the magnetization direction of the recording layer of a magneto-optical disk at the time of erasing recorded data. CONSTITUTION:At the time of erasing recorded data, an erasing command signal and a reading signal pulse are processed in an AND circuit 10, outputs a similar pulse signal, drive a laser diode 32 synchronized with the pulse signal in a diode driving circuit 6 so as to emit a light in a fixed period. A magneto- optical disk 1 is irradiated with the light spot of the emerging laser light. The power at this time is set at a high power required for erasing. Consequently, an information bit detected by the laser light L1 is erased by means of a laser light L2, i.e., the inverted magnetization direction is returned to the original direction and the recorded data are erased. Consequently, since the emerging light from the diode 32 radiates for a fixed time for erasing and puts off in the other period, the life of the diode is prolonged. |
