A cash register (7) has a keyboard (20 and cash box section (3). Located above this is a housing within which there is a fluorescent lighting tube (13). An angled surface (10) has a milky coloured glass panel and provides a surface for use in checking banknotes (11). With a banknote on the surface the power is turned on to provide illumination. The fluorescent tube has an associated start and inductance. A number of possibilities are provided for the mounting of the lamp. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simplifies checking of banknotes.
