The present invention relates to a process for preparing a shapable dough comprising mixing and kneading a silica source, a dealuminated aluminosilicate zeolite and water, which mixture is kept acidic and comprises between 15 and 80% by weight of silica. Furthermore, the invention relates to preparing extrudates from such shapable doughs, to catalysts prepared from such extrudates and to a hydrocarbon conversion process with the help of such catalysts.
