The work units (10,20) have sides which are bent at right angles on their top edges (22) facing the adjacent unit so as to form a gap with groove (30). Covering surfaces (13,23) have facing side edges (14,24) which are bent downwards and which overlap the angled top edges of the sides. A U shaped rail fits between two adjacent units so that its side arms grip behind the angled side edges of the covering surfaces. The underside of the rail has one or more springs pressing the rail upwards against the covering surfaces angled side edges. USE/ADVANTAGE - The kitchen work units are compact and hygienic by having grease channels in the gap between two units.
