The drum (12), fixed to a motor-driven rotary shaft (22) in a frame (24), has a radial section (12a) extending from its internal surface in which turns (14b) of the cable (14c) are held against lateral displacement. A pressure roller (16) at the lowest point of the drum is pivotable on a bracket (20) fixed to the frame, with a spring (18) urging the roller into contact with the wall of the drum. One section (16a) of the roller guides the cable into the drum while another section (16b) presses it against the wall. ADVANTAGE - Simple and reliable device wraps at least one complete turn of cable around interior wall of the pref. cylindrical or slightly tapered drum.
