At least single-layer film 2-500 microns thick, made from a thermoplastic (I) contains 0.1-99.9 wt.% typical recycled material from mouldings, esp. sheet material, contaminated with 0.1-50 wt.% inorganic and/or organic impurities and/or mixts. thereof. Process for the prodn. of (I) comprises crushing contaminated scrap film, compacting (directly or after precleaning) and re-granulating, opt. with removal of large particles on filters, extruding, and opt. orienting and heat-fixing the film obtd. (I) is based on PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene or PET, and is pref. mono- or bi-axially oriented and heat fixed. The impurities consist of waxes, polymers of the same or different types, pigments, inert particles, metals and/or metal oxides, or mixts. thereof. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used as interlayer material in bitumen packing strips, support material for thick-film joint sealing materials, office materials, substrate material for the prodn. of embossed film, paper laminate, and interlayer material in luggage labels (claimed). Enables the prodn. of good-quality single- or multi-layer film from contaminated recycled plastic film.
