A process to operate a ring spinning frame, which has a series of spindles and a roving supply for each, with drafting rollers, and a ring-rail with synchronous lift at each spindle for the ring and traveller. At on-spin the sequence of operation commences with a rapid lift of the ring-rail, a start of spindle revolution, followed by drive to the drafting rollers, with precise timing. The appts. is also claimed. When the machine is stopped, at position (27), the yarn (21') is in the traveller held on the ring-rail at (17'). As the yarn winds on the reserve (19) at the base of the tube (20), the loose yarn will kink (66). ADVANTAGE - There is less chance of a broken yarn at on-spin following doffing, when the spindle is stopped.
