In the case of an electromagnetic actuator for motor vehicles with a tractive electromagnet and with a lifting armature, a housing is provided for protecting the actuator from environmental influences such as moisture and dust, which housing completely encloses the tractive electromagnet and partially encloses the lifting armature. A seal is also provided between the housing and the lifting armature.
