The cathode-side emitter fingers of a GTO thyrisor are arranged in a plurality of mutually concentric rings and, during turn-off, their resistance with respect to an annular gate contact arranged between the rings becomes relatively low. In order to ensure that the emitter fingers of the outermost ring are the last to be switched off, the voltage drop during turn-off between the outermost ring and the gate contact is made at least 20 % higher than the voltage drop between the innermost ring and the gate contact. <IMAGE> |
