PURPOSE:To obtain polystyrene excellent in impact resistance, appearance and extrusion flow, by polymerizing styrene with a specified butadiene rubber. CONSTITUTION:A (co)polymer obtained by polymerizing 1,3-butadiene or copolymerizing it with styrene in the presence of an organolithium compound as a polymerization initiator an, optionally, a Lewis base compound is reacted with a compound of the formula (wherein R is hydrocarbon group, X is a halogen and l is 0 or 1) to obtain a butadiene rubber (A) having a 1,2-bond content of 8-14mol%, based on the bound butadient, a bound styrene content <=15wt%, a weight-average MW to number-average MW ratio of 1.08-1.60, a branched polymer chain content >=50wt%, a branched polymer chain molecular length to nonbranched polymer chain molecular length ratio of 1.8-3.2 (as determined by GPC), a Mooney viscosity (100 deg.C) of 35-50 and a melt viscosity of 25-65cP (in a 5wt% styrene solution at 25 deg.C). Styrene is copolymerized with component A to obtain a high-impact PS of a component A content of 5-15wt%. |
