In the smoke detector according to the invention having a housing component, housing cover and lower photocarrier, as well as having a circuit board, components, an upper photocarrier, labyrinth and signalling cover, the housing component, the housing cover and the lower photocarrier are constructed as an integral housing (10), the housing (10) being formed in the region of the photoelements for the direct reception of a transmitting and/or receiving diode (11, 12) and being of trough-shaped construction in the region of the circuit board (13) for components (16, 17, 18) for the purpose of receiving a sealing compound (22). In the housing (10) a recess (23) for at least one balancing resistor (19), which can be soldered in, is provided on the outside of the trough-shaped area and cannot be reached by the sealing compound.
