PURPOSE:To improve the resistance to heat and lead poisoning of the titled catalyst by forming a titania-alumina coated film on a carrier, and depositing the oxide of a rare earth metal or a platinum group metal on the coated film layer. CONSTITUTION:An aq. composition of titania-alumina is prepared from the ethoxide or isopropoxide of titanium and the isopropoxide of aluminum or a metallic alkoxide such as a Sec-butoxide. The aq. composition is deposited on the carrier, and then baked at >=400 deg.C to form the titania-alumina coated film on the carrier. The oxide of a rare earth metal or the platinum group metal is then deposited on the titania-alumina coated film layer to produce the catalyst for purifying exhaust gas. The catalyst has excellent resistance to heat and lead poisoning, and can be extensively utilized as the catalyst for various fuel devices and automobiles. |
