PURPOSE:To produce the subject compound by a method capable of carrying out a transesterification of the following process without isolating methyl-beta-(3,5- di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, readily separating a catalyst, not coloring a reaction product. CONSTITUTION:2,6-Di-tert-butylphenol is reacted with methyl acrylate in the presence of (A) a basic catalyst such as potassium hydroxide to give a reaction solution containing methyl-beta-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate, which is reacted with pentaerythritol and (B) an alkali metal compound such as lithium hydroxide and (C) calcium oxide under heating. |
