PURPOSE: To inhibit corrosion in a metal caused by a corrosive medium contg. a hydrogen halide such as hydrogen fluoride and a sulfonic compd. by blending a sufficient amt. of water therein. CONSTITUTION: A catalytic system or a catalytic compsn. contg. a hydrogen halide such as hydrogen fluoride and a sulfonic compd. such as a sulfolane is used as an alkylation catalyst. When this catalytic compsn. is brought into contact with a metal in a pressure vessel, a piping system or the like of carbon steel, corrosion occurs. At this time, the catalytic system or catalytic compsn. contg. the hydrogen halide and the sulfonic compd. is blended with a sufficient amt. of water. The concn. of the water in the catalytic system at this time is controlled to about 0.25 to 10.0 wt.%. In this way, the corrosion in the alkylation process system is delayed or inhibited. |
