TYPE IDENTIFYING METHOD FOR AIRCRAFT

PURPOSE:To identify the type of aircraft passing through an observing point by detecting noise of the aircraft. CONSTITUTION:A detection pattern is formed having peak values of signal level of noise produced from an aircraft to be measured and peak values of frequency signal components of the noise signal as pattern elements. The detection pattern is then compared with a reference pattern predetermined for a known aircraft thus identifying the type of aircraft to be measured. When the type of aircraft can not be identified, the detection pattern is compared with a detection pattern for a jet plane or a propeller plane thus determining whether the aircraft to be measured is a jet plane or a propeller plane.
