Identification of plaque bacteria

Detection of bacterial mixts. which are pathogenic to oral tissue, esp. mixts. of plaque bacteria associated with gingivitis and paradontosis, is effected by taking a plaque sample from a patient, dividing it into several portions, incubating each portion with one of a set of 4-8 chromogenic substrates for the bacteria to be detected, adding a chromogenic reagent, and observing any change on light absorption.
