The process includes covering upper decorated surface of ski (1) with a shiny varnish that is then reticulated. A pulsed jet of fluid which contains abrasive particles is sprayed on to the surface. This is sprayed on parts of the surface (A) and the other parts are masked and it only affects the layer of varnish. The fluid is sprayed with air under a pressure of 1-4 bars and pref. 2.5 bars and the spray can move along the ski. The particles are white carborundum which have an average size between 20 and 200 micrometers. ADVANTAGE - The process ensures that the mat and shiny zones stay on the ski surface and do not get degraded by friction or extreme temperatures.
