The appts. changes the position of a movable part (2) w.r.t. its support (5). The former is provided with a guide rail (8) which engages a guide groove (7) let into the latter. When the movable part is slid it moves according to the form of the guide rail and groove. The arrangement allows linear as well as rotary movements. A braking element on the support operates on the guide rail to retain the movable part at any selected position. The braking element can be pressed against the rail by means of a screw and/or spring. The end of the guide rail is pref. wedge shaped. USE/ADVANTAGE - Display for box office, registration bureau, computer or comfortable telephone station, allowing position to be changed to suit viewer, e.g. if direct sunlight is causing disturbing reflections. Can take up any desired position and be relied upon to hold it.
