PURPOSE: To access to a track on the surface of a moving medium storing data and to execute tracking by correcting tracking in the direction of a diameter. CONSTITUTION: A reflecting mirror 4 and a convergent lens 5 are fixedly fitted to a carriage 3 and tracking in the direction of the diameter is corrected through a mirror 6. The mirror 6 is turned with a shaft fixed on the frame of a read/recording device so that it passes through the center Q of the mirror 6, and the mirror is controlled by a motor coil B3. When a moving head is in a nominal position against the frame of the read/recording device, a straight line connecting points P and Q is matched with a straight line f1-f2. Detection cells 12 and 13 which are fixedly fitted to the carriage 3 and which are symmetrically arranged on a vertical shaftδ1-δ2 with the straight line f1-f2 as a center collide with the edges of beams. Thus, the beams r1-r3 against the carriage 3 following a vertical direction are detected.
