The components (3), evenly distributed over the periphery of the spindle (1), each with at least one edge line, extend at least over the spindle width. The components can be lowered against the spindle for axial withdrawal of a completed roll. Each of them has a rectangular cross-section with the cross-section short sides facing one another. When they are in the work position the surfaces corresponding to the rectangular cross-section long sides cover preferably approximately 55 per cent of the peripheral surface. The components extend parallel to the axis of the spindle or in screw line fashion relatively to the spindle axis. The outwardly directed surfaces corresponding to the cross-section long sides are axially weakly concavely formed. The roll as the result of locally axially outwardly directed forces extending over the roll width has barely visible shape alterations of the layer of strip-form material. The shape alterations are strongest in the innermost layer and successively decrease with increasing roll diameter. |
