The exhaust gas regulating unit (20) of an IC engine (2) regulates the temp. of a NOX absorption unit (10), in order to maintain its temp. within an established range, in which the high NOX absorption capability of the NOX absorption unit can be attained. A programme regulates the fuel injection nozzle (14) and the air injection nozzle (16). This programme is carried out by successive interruptions in established time intervals. The temp. of the exhaust gas is determined by a temp. sensor (18). ADVANTAGE - NOX absorption unit has continuous high NOX absorption property.
