Peptides of the general formula (I): A-B-E-F-Ala-G-(D-Phe)-U-V-Y-Z wherein A is H or an amino protecting group or is absent; B is Gly, Ala, (beta)-Ala, PyrAla, Gln or Lys, or is absent; E is absent or Het-(CR'2)mCHR1(CR'2)pCO; F is D-Trp(R2), D-Nal or D-Phe(R2); G is Nal(R2), Trp(R2) or Phe(R2); U is Lys, Arg or Orn; V is D- or L- Gln, NH(CR'2)nCO or NH(CR'2)n-OH; Y is absent or Gly; Z is OR'' or NR'R''; R, R' and R'' are H or C1-4alkyl; R1 is H, C1-4alkyl or NR'; R2 is H, F, Cl, Br, I or NO2; m and n are 0 to 3; and p is 0 or 1; or stimulate the release of growth hormone from mammals.
