Any sideways shift of a load, whether carried on a pallet or not, is detectable by means of an ultrasonic or optical barrier extending between the tines. When such a shift is detected the succeeding position for delivery of the load is approached with a corresp. compensatory shift. If a load is not carried squarely w.r.t. the fork, this will be detected by one of two switches at the roots of the tines being operated earlier than the other. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in driverless transportation systems, incorrectly placed loads can be detected and necessary corrections applied easily and at favourable cost.
